Meet Jim Gellatly, not just the voice of new music in Scotland but the voice of Glasgow Music Tour.  Let’s join him now on Jim Lambie’s album pathway looking for his first gigs at the Barrowland.

That’s Jim talking about Glasgow Music Tour in a video by Marco Federici for STV Glasgow Riverside Show.  (It took him a while to find the bands he was looking for, “Of course they’re not in chronological order,” he says, “That would be boring!”)

Tomorrow (Saturday 8 November) JIm will be leading another group up the path on a mini version of our tour specially arranged for an MTV media group and People Make Glasgow. Along with Chris Cunningham from our sister brand RadioMagnetic, Jim will be talking about highlights of the tour and giving his own insight into the contemporary music scene.

We all agree we couldn’t have a better guide to Glasgow music than Jim Gellatly. The unmistakeable ‘voice of new music in Scotland’ is heard far and wide on radio and online.  He’s good at listening too – in recognition of his sympathetic and informed support for emerging bands, Jim was presented with Radio Academy’s John Peel Award for contribution to Music Radio in 2008.

Jim comes from Dundee, a city not without a certain gritty identity but he still has vivid memories of his first gigs at the Barrowland when he discovered that throwing pints at the band was regarded as a term of endearment: “ I always thought, ‘why would anyone in Glasgow want to throw their pint away?’”

As DJ and presenter he has played his part in uncovering some of the most important bands around – Oasis, Snow Patrol and Coldplay – and is always on the look out for today’s new talent as you can hear on his weekly New Music selection for Radio Magnetic.

But first, why not join him on  Glasgow Music Tour.  You might even cross paths with our Anny Deery and Amanda Mitchell leading another mini music tour tomorrow for international journalists exploring the City of Music.
