Route 1: Govan

Clydeside PromenadeLength : 5 Minutes 39 Seconds

Govan was the centre of the ancient kingdom of Strathclyde and can claim a shipbuilding heritage stretching back many hundreds of years.

On the way from Govan Cross to Govan Old Church we see evidence of the borough’s second period of greatness which began in the Victorian era and lasted well into the 20th century.

Today Govan is entering a new creative era as contemporary culture re-examines the past to find what it means for the present.

At this stop we introduce Dr Ronnie Scott, Glasgow historian, writer and tour guide who will keep us company on our long walk from Govan to the East End. We will also meet artist Tara Beall and musician Maria Leahy of Govan Hidden Histories, and Frazer Capie of the Govan Stones Project.
