Glasgow Green

Glasgow Music CelebratedLength : 3 Minutes 24 Seconds

Granted to the people of Glasgow in the 1400s, Glasgow Green has been used and enjoyed in many different ways through the centuries.

From washing clothes and drying fishing nets to modern day music festivals ( and hosting Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014) this green space has provided the people of Glasgow with a wide range of activities, events and traditions – national and international.

One such tradition is the annual World Pipe Band Championships. Thousands travel to Glasgow Green both to compete and enjoy the music and the spectacle, with groups of players from all over the world competing at the highest international level. And while huge numbers arrive on the ground thousands more are tuning in to live streams of the piping performances from every corner of the globe.
