So the MOBO awards 2011 are all over but it’s no surprise they were moved back to the SECC after a brief hiatus in Liverpool last year which never really matched the intensity or charm of Glasgow in 2009, the first MOBO awards held outside of London and the biggest in its 16 year history.

Beginning in 1996 the MOBO awards were the first award show in Europe to exclusively celebrate urban music. Since then it has brought urban music to the forefront of British culture, constantly evolving to incorporate and rejoice in up and coming musicians and musical styles, grime the most recent example of urban music which has taken hold of the British music scene.

On Wednesday 5 October Tinchy Stryder, Jessie J, Boyz II Men, Ms Dynamite, Wylie and many more all flocked into UNESCO’s City of Music reinforcing Glasgow’s reputation as one of the most diverse and legendary music scenes on the planet. As you’ll find out soon enough in the Walking Heads Glasgow Music Tour no genre is too weird and no venue is too outlandish for this cities eclectic music lovers!

We hope all of this year’s MOBO winners from Rihanna to Alborosie and this year’s performers and audience members take a bit of time out before they head back home, to appreciate and explore the musical history of the city which we are sure, as we did when researching and producing our upcoming Walking Heads Glasgow Music Tour, they will find both extensive and fascinating.
