Jamie MacDonald

“You might be thinking, a blind guide leading a walking tour, how’s that going to work?” Jamie MacDonald, actor, comedian and script-writer for theatre and new media, loved the daftness of being asked to guide visitors round Edinburgh’s Fringe venues on our first audio adventure, Edinburgh Comedy Tour. His white stick is not just a dramatic prop though he is certainly not above putting it to good comic effect in his highly successful new solo show That Funny Blind Guy, which was launched at Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2013. He wields the stick in the virtual world too. As the Professor of our comedy audio tour, he pointed out that he would need a helper. The result, with more hindrance than help from Harry Gooch, is a very unconventional tour of favourite tourist haunts – check the confrontation with drag queens by the Spiegeltent – though Jamie’s history degree from St Andrews University does come in handy for some authentic information.

Harry Gooch

Harry Gooch is one of those comedians who can make you laugh without saying a word. Luckily for us he’s pretty good with words too (he studied English at St Andrews University before going on to study mime and physical theatre in London and Toronto). As an actor, Harry specialises in improvisation (you can see him live with Improv FX in Edinburgh Festival Fringe and for Christmas 2013 they produced an Improvised Panto). You can hear that skill at work as he leads our blind Professor from one accident to another on their crazy tour of the city’s history. Listen to the riff on pub names – our favourite is the rapping duo D Con & Bro D. And the last scene on the way to The Stand Comedy Club brings tears to the eyes. When he is not making people laugh, Harry teaches English and improv – and improv through English – to students, actors and other professionals inside and beyond the UK.
