Explore the Merchant City for clues

We are very excited to announce the first Walking Heads Musical Treasure Hunt & Quiz running as part of the Merchant City Festival and in association with the Apple Store.  This is a treasure hunt through the streets of the Merchant City with a photographic theme so keep an eye out for unusual photo opportunities – your work will be displayed on screens in the Apple Store and the best will be published on Walking Heads website.

The event runs over two days to give you plenty of time to research your answer and gather all the clues.

9. Take a bite of the Apple with a team photo featuring the famous logo
10. Pay your fayre with a photo of this iconic Merchant City landmark
11. Beneath which two letters of the alphabet will you find the founder of this legendary venue? Capture the letters.
12. Release your inner rock star, grab a guitar and rock out. Use your device’s video camera to record a short clip for us
13. Glasgow’s world famous music scene means so much to people. Express your feelings with a photo
14. Take a single channel journey to this music venue and follow the “tracks” to capture an image of a sleeve that catches your eye.
15. Chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken…this venue provided eggs for Glasgow east during World War 2. Scramble your image by using unusual angles for the shot
16. Its all about the tunes! Grab small recording of a track from an unlucky juke box and it will become part of the playlist in the Apple store closing event

Day One – 5-6pm Wednesday 25 July Bring your iPhone or iPad to meet your quiz master DJ Jim Gellatly (Clyde 1, West Sound FM and Glasgow Music Tour guide) for an interactive quiz and photographic treasure hunt through Merchant City music history. An iPhone photography expert will be on hand to give advice on capturing the best images.

Day Two – 5-6pm Friday 27 July Teams return to answer final ‘tie-breaker’ questions set by Jim Gellatly. At the end of the event we will invite you to join us for a complimentary drink  at a Merchant City music venue (shh it’s secret so far) to celebrate results and present participation awards.

How do I enter?

You can come to the launch event on Wednesday 25th July in the Apple Store, Buchanan St to receive your questions and tasks.  But don’t worry if you can’t make that as you can also enter online and have the questions and tasks emailed to you. Enter at game@walkingheads.net with your team name in the title.

 

What does it cost?

It’s totally free although you may incur data charges depending on your phone tariff as you have to email  your answers. We’ll let you know about some Wifi spots that might be useful for you.

Can anyone enter?
Yes but as it’s in association with Apple, you have to use either  iPhone or iPad to capture and email answers to the quiz.

How big can the team be?
We would recommend doing this with friends so ideally 2-4 people but it’s up to you if you want more or less than that.

What is the make up of the Quiz?
You will be given a series of questions that can be answered by listening to Route 1 of the Glasgow Music Tour app or doing some online research. You have have a series of treasure tasks to complete using your Apple device with those being emailed in under your team name. EG Photos of objects or audio clips.

What can I win?

It’s a participation only event to keep in line with Apple policy on competitions. There will be some free music on offer to everyone who enters as a thanks from Walking Heads. We will be selecting our favourite photos and other media submitted by each team with them best of them being published on the Walking Heads website or even included in the Glasgow Music Tour app. And we hope you will join us for a complimentary drink and thankyou celebration at a (so far) secret Merchant City Venue.

When does the event end?
All answers must be submitted by 4pm on Friday 27th July. There will then be a closing event from 5pm Friday 27th July in the Apple Store, Buchanan St where final questions will be asked. Don’t worry if you can’t make this as the final questions will also be emailed out at the start of the closing event.
